Whistleblowers

Whistleblowers are essential to maintaining honesty and defending the common good.

America’s first whistleblower was Benjamin Franklin. He was excoriated in Great Britain for the secret colonial correspondence he obtained and released concerning colonial governors’ corruption and complicity with British repression. He was treated as a spy and “incendiary agent.”

Before his election, Obama praised whistleblowers as courageous, and essential to our democracy, yet whistle blowers were more severely prosecuted under the Obama administration than most, if not all, prior presidents.

  • I strongly support laws protecting individuals with the courage and conscience to be whistleblowers, whether in government (where security is not compromised), public utilities, or business (such as in the Challenger attempted cover-up).
